Our Mission

Our homeland is under attack and may be losing the war. No, it's not foreign terrorists. This assault occurs daily in every American home-it's the chemicals lurking unseen in our water.

American drinking water is laced with chlorine, arsenic, and persistent organic pollutants that the United Nations Environmental Program calls, "a danger to the well-being of all living beings."

Water is the basic necessity of life. Yet, in America, the land of abundance, the majority of us can't drink our tap water. With all our miraculous advances in technology, 40% of our rivers, lakes and streams are too polluted for swimming. Dramatic increases in the number of warnings issued against eating mercury-contaminated fish, which now occur in 42 states, demonstrate that mercury is a serious national problem.

Private interests with huge amounts of money and influence oppose efforts to reduce the chemicals released into our water supply. The only way to fight them is to pressure policymakers with strong public interest, and a sense of urgency.

The stakes are high. It takes commitment, action and one big voice to make a difference. After September 11, Americans proved that we could still stand together. Join us at Americans for Healthy Water to launch a global defense against the corporate poisons that invade our homes and waterways.

Our mission at is to investigate what needs to be done to make our water safe for drinking, recreation, and habitable for wildlife.

"The brave man inattentive to his duty is worth little more to his country than the coward who deserts her in the hour of danger." - Andrew Jackson
